 POLICIES | Grading System
 

EXAMINATIONS

    The students' grade for every semester is composed of the First Grading Period (PRELIM); Second Grading Period (MIDTERM) and the Final Exam. The computation of grades for the semestral term is :

                           FINAL GRADE = Prelim Grade + Midterm Grade + Final Exam Grade
                                                                              3

                         

  1. For the Semestral Term:
    • There are three grading periods of six weeks throughout the semester. The grade for each grading period, except the third which is the final grade for the semester  denotes the grades of the students only for that period independent of the other periods.

    • Computation of the grades for the term

    For the First Grading Period:

    • The Class Standing for the First Grading Period is the average of all the ratings of the students in (1) discussion, recitation, and projects, and (2) short daily and/or weekly quizzes during the first grading period.

    • The Final Grade for the First Grading Period is the average of the periodic test and twice the class standing of this period.

    For the Second Grading Period:

    • The Class Standing for the Second Grading Period is the Average of all the ratings of the students in (1) discussion, recitation, and projects and (2) short daily and/or weekly quizzes for the period from second week of the administration of the First Grading Period up to the administration of the Final Examination for the semester.

    For the Final Grade:
    The Final Grade for the Semestral Term is the average of the (1) Final Grade of the First Grading Period (2) Final Grade of the Second Grading Period, and (3) the Final Examination of the term.

  2. For the Summer Term:
    • There are two grading periods: Mid-Summer and Final
       
    • Computation of Grades:

     

    1. Mid-summer grade – same computation as that of the first grading period of the regular semester,  i.e average of the mid-term test and twice the class standing of the mid-summer.
    2. Other achievements (OA) – average of all ratings in discussions, recitations, quizzes, projects, etc. within the second half of summer term.
    3. The Final grade is the average of mid-summer grade, all other achievement from mid-summer period up to final meeting, and the final examination of the summer.
  3. Final Grade are reported as:
    A 97-100
    A- 94-96
    B+ 91-93
    B 88-90
    B- 85-87
    C+ 80-84
    C 75-79
    F Less than 75 – Failed

    Inc. (Incomplete) – Failure to either take the final examination for the term or complete the requirements of the course or both.

    AW – Authorized Withdrawal – officially approved by the Office of the Registrar.

    UW – Unauthorized Withdrawal (equivalent to F)

          Conditions for the completion of incomplete grades (Inc.)

  • Only students who are officially enrolled during the succeeding semester can complete their grades.

  • Application for completion should be secured from the Office of the Registrar and accomplished within one year after the (Inc.) grade has been incurred.

  • Only teachers concerned are authorized to enter the completed grades.

  • If the above conditions area met, an incomplete grade (Inc.) becomes an F (Failure)

     

Academic Discipline – a student, who withdraws, obtains failures or incomplete grades in fifty percent (50%) of his academic load of the preceding semester will not be readmitted the following semester. 

    All periodic examination shall be given according to the Office schedule prepared by the Registrar.

   All periodic examination (Preliminary, Mid-Term, Final) not taken on the date scheduled shall be considered as      special examination. A fee for each subject is charged for this purpose.

   Special examination for a periodic examination should be taken as scheduled by the Registrar; otherwise, the student gets an F for that periodic examination.

The following regulations shall govern special examinations:

  • Only students who are in residence will be allowed to take special examinations. 
  • Application for special examinations should be filed with the Office of the Registrar within the time provided for in the calendar of the College.

 In recognition of superior scholarship, three grades of general honors are awarded at graduation: Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude.

The following regulations govern the awarding or honors:

  • Only candidates for degree courses can graduate with honors.
     
  • A student who obtains the following averages, using the quotient or Grade Point Index of grades from the first year to fourth year in this College with no grade lower than B ort its equivalent, no Inc.(Incomplete Grade),no UW (Unauthorized  Withdrawal) no AW( Authorized Withdrawal), may be entitled to the honors as stated thus:

  •  Summa Cum Laude 97-100
     Magna Cum Laude 94-96
     Cum Laude 91-93

     

  • He must have started in the College within the freshman year.
     
  • He must have show good behavior during his stay in the College and no valid accusation or information reflecting on his charter shall have been presented against him.
