 GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT
 
WELCOME TO THE NTC GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT DIVISION!


    The Guidance and Placement Center of The National Teachers College Manila works a fundamental part of the total educational process. It mainly provides for the holistic development of the student to the fullest actualization of their potential while extending its services to families, alumni, and members of the community.

The Center’s program is developmental, preventive and humanistic in nature. It offers developmentally designed activities for each level on the areas of personal, social, educational and career.


VISION

The Guidance and Placement Center, as an integral part of the National Teachers College, joins in the realization of NTC’S Vision – Mission by providing significant programs and services that will empower and equip students in bringing out their maximum potential towards national productivity and world-class competitiveness. As serving professionals, it aims to produce and promote a holistic growth to NTCian students by providing responsive and preventive guidance programs and interventions to support their personal, social, career, and educational progress.



MISSION

The Guidance and Placement Center aims to assist students in meeting all their guidance needs. The Center aims to provide services that help students attain optimum adjustments in all areas of school life. Inspired by the ideals of social equality and intellectual responsibility, the Center offers and implements various programs and activities which help students attain finest adjustment in the personal, educational, social and emotional aspects of life through relevant guidance program.


 


INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY SERVICE

  
Students’ personal data are collected and recorded to serve as a reference of the students’ academic, personal, and psychological profile. Such information can be used in proper diagnosis, predicting progress and behaviours, accurate placement, program evaluation and referrals. Pertinent information such as test results, routine interview notes and academic performance reports are filed and updated annually.


INFORMATION SERVICE

  
The Guidance and Placement Centers’ Information service provides students with personal-social information that will help them develop their personality and social life; with educational-academic information that would help them choose the proper academic setting and program; knowing the requirements and the opportunities; and with vocational-occupational information that would help them learn about the world of work and careers so that they can make appropriate decisions that will prepare them for the future.


COUNSELLING SERVICE

  
This is the heart of the Guidance Services. This service provides a helping relationship between the counselor and the client. The counselor interprets the data gathered about the client and relates them to the information about the world outside the individual in order to contribute growth and adjustment, problem-solving and decision making. This can be done individually or in groups.

PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING AND ASSESSMENT

  
Through the use of standardized tests, evaluation of students’ strong points and weak points in the areas of intelligence, aptitude and personality are being employed. This service provides assessment of the intellectual ability, interest, potential, personality and achievement level of students. It seeks to identify students’ individualism that will contribute to a deeper awareness and understanding of oneself.


CAREER PLACEMENT

  
This service provides assistance to the student’s progress to the appropriate educational or occupational level or program; entry into the appropriate co-curricular and extracurricular activities; pursuit of further education or other employment upon leaving the institution.

   Counselors assist the students to make the transition from school to the world of work. Counselors help graduating students prepare for future job screening by employing exit interviews. The data gathered from these interviews will be used by the counselor to provide honest feedback regarding students’ strengths and weaknesses that will help in assessing the nature of work a student will most likely fit. Programs such as Job Hunting Skills, Mock Interview, Job Fairs and Power Dressing are just some of the activities for graduating students. The Center also takes care of its graduate students by posting in the job placement bulletin board job vacancies and sending their contact information to prospective employers.


REFERRAL

  
This service offer’s assistance to the clients in obtaining services from other people or agencies that might be more effective in helping them with their special needs. Normally, referrals are made to other individuals, particularly specialists, who might be in a better position in handling the case and responding to the peculiar needs of the student or the client.

FOLLOW-UP SERVICE

  
This service helps determine the status of the students who received assistance and what other assistance must be rendered so that the service is complete and holistic. Through this service it can determine the adequacy and sufficiency of the programs and services extended in meeting the needs of its students.

RESEARCH AND EVALUATION

  
This service evaluates on the data available at the Center as a tool to aid curriculum and program development. Research is a service oriented activity conducted to discover new ideas, to advance the present knowledge, and to substantiate theory. It seeks to discover new techniques, strategies and interventions that might be helpful for the client. Likewise, it attempts to unveil the needs of the school community as well as to establish the need to improve programs and interventions.
  

FACULTY AND PARENT CONSULTATIONS

  
The Center is always open to consultations made by the faculty members, school personnel and parents regarding school and family matters.

PEER FACILITATOR'S GROUP

   
The Peer Facilitators Group serves as the arm of the Guidance Center. The goal of the Center is to tap and train students with better potential of establishing peer helping relationship and who are capable of assisting the office in realizing its goals by taking part in every program of the Center. The members are equipped with basic counseling skills seminars and other self – enhancing seminars to facilitate group peer counseling and other significant activities. The program develops the students’ hearts for volunteer work and the value of service. The Guidance and Placement Center provides opportunities for the students to volunteer their services in assisting their peers and developing themselves fully by acting as implementing partners of the GPC.

OUTREACH PROGRAMS

  
To give the students the firsthand experience about the realities of life outside the school and to draw out from them the genuine care and concern for other people, the students are encourage to take part in different community outreach programs, such as visiting adopted communities.
